Released in 2000 and still has nearly 20k active players daily on steam. That's just steam, 1.6 was widely pirated in non-steam version and I'd dare to say it's close to 50k daily. It lasted for more than 10 years. It transcended gaming in some regions and was hugely popular everywhere but in the USA. A lot of people that weren't even gamers and never played any other game spent thousands of hours in CS. -Evolution of esports. Quake and starcraft had some attempts, dota was gaining popularity but first tournaments with big prize money were 1.6. -Inception of steam. Steam was basically made because 1.6 was so popular and all the way up to late 00s huge part of the playerbase used it for CS only. I won't even talk about how huge amount of FPS games copied a lot of CS features and ideas. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
