Nintendo NY is doing a week-long demo for Smash, Mario Tennis Aces and Fortnite (for some reason) so I decided to try out Smash after seeing the Direct yesterday.

It started at 9 am (and lines started at 7 am), I got in line at 7:30 am and there were already quite a few people there. About a 2.5 hour wait time in the line.

Here's the roster for the demo:

And here's the stage set for the demo:

A good set of characters, and not too many to give us everything at once.

We're only allowed to play one game per day. One game of Smash is 2 matches with each match timed 2:30. And we had to choose either if we wanted to play someone 1v1, or if we wanted a 4 player match. I chose 4 player. I was originally told my match would be on the big screen, but last minute and a group on the smaller screens finished up and they asked if we wanted to go there. We said it didn't matter lol.

I tried Mewtwo out on my first match, didn't like it too much. Mewtwo seemed to floaty and didn't seem like it did enough damage. I got 3rd on my match using Mewtwo, so I switched to play as an Inkling Girl. I liked Inkling much better, they're a newcomer and the splatting mechanic is pretty cool. It was hard to know when I was able to hide in my paint to refill as it was shown in the demo. I did pretty great as Inkling, got into a sudden death with someone else but I choked and got 2nd.

They gave us this nice little pin for trying out the demo:

tl;dr I enjoyed the demo and I think I'll enjoy the full game, and I believe the skeptics should wait until they play the game before hating on it
