You might find you like it more than you would expect. But I know your tastes don't necessarily line up with others.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying "I looked at it and didn't think it looked interesting, so I avoided it." I HAVE actually played a bit of it, and didn't necessarily like it.

I'm also fully aware of the plot, and it does little for me. I was actually one of the people arguing in favor of Joel not being "the bad guy" in a topic on this board back when the first game came out.

Again, I can see what some people see in the game (I'm not saying it's objectively terrible), it just doesn't click with me in any meaningful way. It's telling a story I'm not overly inclined to participate in.

At least with something like Horizon you've got a unique spin on the post-apocalyse setting with the cybernetic/primitive hybrid, just for one example.

I absolutely loved Horizon. That clicked with me on a lot of different levels (in spite of me being trepidatious about the combat before release), and it managed to move me emotionally in ways that a lot of games (and even movies) simply don't. I definitely hope they do a sequel, but I'm also glad they didn't shit one out quick to capitalize on its success.

From what I've seen I have been most impressed with The Resident Evil 2 remake.

I believe for me that's my game of show.

The graphics and the atmosphere are top notch. It's a very dark game literally and figuratively. Plus the changes made from the original game are more than enough to keep me interested.

My wife works at night so I'm alone by myself with the kitty cats, and I hear weird noises all night. I'm prepared to be scared and freaked out for 12 plus hours in 4k.

I think RE2 was my first "survival horror" game back in the day. My first experience with it was playing it in college, over a weekend, when all of my roommates weren't going to be around and I'd have the apartment to myself, and I decided to play the whole game with all the lights turned off for ambience.

By the end of the game, every single light in my apartment was turned on, every door was open, the front door had the chain lock bolted, and I was sort of sitting crouched in a fetal ball on the couch with my legs sort of tucked up into my chest. The mood and tone of that game got deep into my head and was creepy in a way no RE game has been for me since (RE7 looks like it might be able to engender that same sort of creep-out factor, but I've never played it and I've seen full Let's Plays of the game, so I probably never will at this point).

There was never really all that many horror games from back in the day that ever really creeped me out in any way. The Fatal Frame games were pretty consistent along those lines, though, and the first Clock Tower game (first in the US, anyway) managed pretty well, but after those either the games got tamer or I just got more jaded.

I've kind of grown out of the genre though. Even with the recent glut of YouTube-bait jump-scare horror games getting tons of praise, I've never really felt the need to play any of them.
