It's just not worth it.

If my health and gym class knowledge holds up the reason people gain it all back is a combination of some muscle loss which slows the metabolism and not actually fixing their eating habits, so they eat like they are still at their heavier weights and they gain it right back.

This can be combated by slowly increasing your calories to their new level and doing some muscle building while eating carbs and protiens to gain muscle.
