Someone must have thought that by splitting California it would mean more democrat representatives. http://www.ppic.org/publication/californias-political-geography/ However looking at this it appears liberal ideology is concentrated along the coast, especial in the north. While conservatism is much stronger throughout. Conclusion: This change might result in pushing the democratic party to become more moderate, if not outright free the new states to lean republican. --- No locked doors, no windows barred.
