If you don't shop with Amazon, Chase (who manages the Amazon card) offers other good cashback cards without annual fees. One of them has 5% rewards that rotate per category every quarter. You have to "activate the bonus" but you can get an e-mail reminder to do that.

Bank provided cards aren't a bad idea, just make sure you read up on what it offers. I can't speak to all banks, but I use Navy Federal and have a card from them and it's right there on my account overview page with my checking and saving account and it makes it hella easy to pay for it.

It offers a very limited product catalogue, very limited travel bonuses, and cashback options (either straight cash back or gift cards to various stores and services).

Besides annual fees you'll want to see if rewards points expire, and if so, when - sometimes they expire within X amount of time after the last charge (so you can have "unlimited" points as long as you use the card on a periodic basis) or sometimes they expire X months after the qualifying charge lapses - IE, 18 months from a purchase date regardless if you make other purchases afterwards. To me that's important because I don't even really tap into my benefits that often and so I don't want to be using a product where the perks of using it are gonna just vanish into thin air.
