Why is Trump so obsessed with looking strong

Because he's an insecure manbaby.

Maybe... but it's much more than that.

Ever heard of Norman Vincent Peale? He had a huge influence on Trump's life:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Vincent_Peale

Have you ever heard Trump apologizing? The only thing we've heard from Trump that comes close to an apology was after the access hollywood tape came out - and even that wasn't really much of an apology because he immediately turned it around and said Bill Clinton did much worse.

Trump never apologizes. He never defends. He always attacks. You criticize something he did and he's not going to take his time and answer your criticism point by point like a good man. He's going to deflect and counter-attack, and make sure he always looks strong by doing so.

This is classic Peale. It's some kind of an ultimate self-confidence kind of thing. Show no weakness. Always attack.

The way Trump attacks people like Robert DeNiro on twitter is just typical of this mindset. You say something bad about me, I strike back twice as hard. His response to the Mueller investigation is also an example of this. Kellyanne Conway understood this better than anyone else. When she became Trump's campaign manager, she really took Trump's instincts and fleshed it out into a brutally effective political strategy that had the whole team on the same page.

Remember the first debate between Obama and Mitt Romney? Obama was fucking massacred. Everyone said Romney won the debate. If you took the time to fact-check everything after, you could perhaps make the point that Obama should have won "on points." But if the debate was a boxing match, Obama would've been fucking KO-d. That's because Obama was too docile, too nice, trying too hard to explain himself. Romney, however, was an attack dog.

This is what works in politics. When you explain yourself, you look weak. Romney was able to do it in the first debate against Obama, but Trump has been practicing this for almost all his life.

If you're interested in the whole Scientology thing, that attitude that Trump carries with him is actually also part of Scientology doctrine. L. Ron Hubbard made "don't ever defend, always attack" an official policy.

From L. Ron Hubbard:
In the face of danger from government or courts, there are only two errors one can make: (a) do nothing and (b) defend. The right things to do with any threat are to (1) find out if we want to play the offered game or not (2) if not, to derail the offered game with a feint or attack upon the most vulnerable point which can be disclosed in the enemy ranks (3) make enough threat or clamor to cause the enemy to quail (4) don't try to get any money out of it (5) make every attack by us also sell Scientology and (6) win. If attacked on some vulnerable point by anyone or anything or any organization, always find or manufacture enough threat against them to cause them to sue for peace. Peace is bought with an exchange of advantage, so make the advantage and then settle. Don't ever defend. Always attack. Don't ever do nothing. Unexpected attacks in the rear of the enemy's front ranks work best.

Sounds like Trump? Trump is no Scientologist, but both Trump and Scientologists know that this strategy works.

Ever saw those videos where Scientologists scream at people "what are your crimes? what are your crimes?" That's where it comes from.

Democrats have a LOT to learn from Trump and Conway. Politics is a game and right now Trump and Conway are playing it like masters while democrats are just complaining. They need to stop complaining and start playing better.
