So when they retcon The Punisher's backstory from being a Vietnam vet to having fought in Iraq, or when you realize that it used to be part of Reed Richard's backstory that he fought in WWII (which would make him 90+ years old now), there's no real legitimate metaphysical reason for the change (though some people actually have hypothesized that Franklin Richards somehow warps time and reality subconsciously, which is also why he's currently around 8 years old in spite of having been born in 1968).
