Believe it or not, a lot of people wouldn't care about socialists if they were just economic leftists who want poor people and workers to have better lifestyles and stuff. It's the repression and brutality that comes along with it that people usually have a problem with. Which is why SJW is a household name. You recognize there's a very good chance that a Democratic Socialist could have won the last Presidential election, right?
