I suppose treat things as "case by case" basis comes closest to my approach. Though when someone else who also treats things as "case by case" basis comes to a different conclusion I don't automatically dismiss their views as wrong either. There's really 2 questions being asked here.
How rooted are you in your own views?
How do you respond to criticism of your views?
I have a sort of fascination with the thought process and take every opportunity to explain my own in the hopes that the "other side" of an issue will do the same. I don't "understand where the other side is coming from", but I want to explore that.
