It's 1

6/2(1+2)

First you do the parentheses

So

6/2(3)

Here's where the trip up is for a lot of people, as 3 is still in parentheses we have to clear it out... keep in mind if it was written 6/2(1+2) it would be different but the multiplication sign is absent so we still have a parentheses to take care of:

6/6

Which equals 1.

I was thinking 9, but just read this and I think he's right.

He is wrong. 6/2x(1+2) is the exact same thing as 6/2(1+2). It is 9

Actually it's not. Parentheses has to be solved first regardless of the sign

Ok so how do I solve for (x+1)(y+2)? When theres nothing to solve first regardless of the sign within the parentheses, you take whats in it and you multiply, turn it into something you can work with.

What is (3) asking me to solve?
