Here is a visual if it helps. The PS-90 on the left has a 16 barrel, while the AR-15 on the right has a 10 barrel, both shown with a blue line from chamber to barrel end. The longer barrel helps with accuracy and the velocity on the projectile. It does those things while allowing an overall shorter firearm. bknight posted... ...
