Mixed feelings about Black Lightning s1 so far. It's milking a lot of hot button issues, which gets a bit annoying, especially since it's not really balanced to any extent (well, other than Jeff's pragmatism) -- yeah, I get it, the show is SJW, enough virtue-signalling. And, I'm not sure if it's backstory or bad writing, but the show has a lot of pointless mysteries, references, and intrigue (especially where the tailor is concerned).

Of course, my biggest issue might be the tone, which flips from grimdark serious (like we saw with Lala and Will) to cartoonish, stereotypical comic stuff (Tobias and his henchmen, Lady Eve, etc). The costume also kinda straddles both worlds, although it falls more into the goofy comic side of things. Well, that and Anissa's longass b-side story arc which eats up a lot of time every episode. And, well, most of the fight sequences have been pretty lousy.

On the plus side, I like the cast. The sisters play off each other very well. BL's strained relationship with his wife has a nice dynamic. Tobias steals almost every scene he's in. And his henchman are pretty neat.

Currently 6 episodes in, looks like a 13-episode season. I thought I'd enjoy the show a lot more than I have, although I'm still digging it.
