Topic | When TLJ came out, all the critics were saying it was the best Star Wars movie |

They present an experience the way we think it should go: background leads to conflict leads to resolution. In a sense, TLJ was more realistic because its events string together so poorly; the only thing more realistic would be Rey getting shot down on the far side of the planet and everyone in the resistance except her and Chewbacca dying. The one classic story element that persists in the new series is the main hero is infallible and a piece too small to fully resolve the failures of the disposable redshirts around her, but just big enough to save them all from total destruction. It's easy to point to male insecurity as the reason people dislike it, but it's really just a very cliche story element. We don't like to admit that star wars is pretty fucking cliche in general. --- And when the hourglass has run out, eternity asks you about only one thing: whether you have lived in despair or not. ...
