The only thing it did was make abortions in the first trimester allowed. There aren't brain waves until about halfway through a pregnancy, so there's nothing wrong with terminating a pregnancy before that point. There isn't a mind in there, so there isn't a person. A mouse is closer to personhood than a first-trimester fetus. As long as mouse traps are legal, early-term abortions should be legal.

On the matter of later-term abortions, I don't feel that those should be elective because I do think that once a fetus has a mind, it should have rights. They may have very rudimentary minds at the 4.5-5 month stage, but I feel that there is intrinsic value to a mind and should be given some rights and respect. That being said, nobody aborts a fetus that far along without medical necessity. All abortions that late are tragedies, because they were wanted and loved children. I've personally seen people I care about be hurt by restrictive laws that shamed them for having to end a pregnancy that they wanted to keep, but couldn't. As someone who's about to see my new daughter born within a week, I can't imagine losing her and then being shamed on top of that.

Yea but a mouse doesn't have the potential to grow into a human being. The way I look at it you are plucking out human potential.
