I stopped playing when it made me collect three things (and boy was it super annoying having to run back to that one spot to try and follow the quickly-vanishing yellow line to find them) to open another thing to get a time piece. It felt like busywork.

i mean

isn't that what all these games are

Ultimately they all come down to busywork collecting, sure, but most of them feel a bit more organic. Finding a jiggy in Banjo or earning a red coin star in SM64 was a natural result of exploration and figuring stuff out. That time piece in A Hat in Time was literally 'here are lines to three places, go there and then here'.

I also admit that I never made it past the first world so I don't know if its design improved at all.
