I didn't read the majority of the arguments in this thread, but here is my view on it.

She clearly snapped back in a way that was not good for the public face of the company. I think it was poor of ArenaNet to not have their policy for social media use down as it seems both people fired were not on any shit list, wasn't given any written warnings or anything like that, was just flat out fired over it without any warning/directions from management to correct it.

They don't need to, though. It's not rocket science to suggest that assaulting a valued customer (so valued, he has his own NPC) and media partner on a public forum as a representative of the company is going to be met with severe consequences.
