It's intrinsically human to have a heirarchy and want people to recognise your position in it.

You're saying that capitalism can't exist if people stop feeling the need to climb in the hierarchy just to be recognised of their position alone?

Yes. If people don't need to get better then they'll choose the easiest job and the country stagnates.


But bullying offers no inherent societal improvement. If anything, it discourages success because people are able to attain and hold higher status without putting in work. Which, again, is why it's so common in collectivist societies.
