In fact, the region's signal tower should have a special "Pang of Conscience" sword as a memorial to all the past glitchiness and trouble related to the search. Note that the Lindenvale blacksmith also has a copy of Hieronymus' notes to start the quest properly, assuming that's the problem in the first place. Not sure what's up with Monster Slayer.
