Honestly this has some validity.

I mean 9/11 in general. Western culture was more unified and we went super hard on freedom of speech, so political correctness wasn't as big a deal. I remember society in general would 100% back something like cartoons of Muhammad in the face of criticism from Muslims, but nowadays society would probably view a cartoonist doing something insulting as a jerk and are more likely to side with Muslims.
