He complains about his ex-wife to generalize relationships and then gets back together with her and makes it work later on in the series.

It's a display of "realness" in the context that Dr. Cox early on was more on the cynical side and his character got developed. But if you're taking it as an agreement of his statements in that episode, his actions later on contradict this.


In the episode itself..

And yes a lot of Scrubs not being a typical sitcom gets broken down after Season 3. One of the thing that bugs me the most is how insane and long winded J.D's fantasies get.
