Unfortunately things went very bad for them after that. Witch Eva is very uncontrollable. Her sadistic nature is frustrating even Beatrice, though I'm guessing some of that has to do not only with Battler's objections but also how Battler's opinions are reshaping how Beatrice sees herself and her past actions. I think Beatrice trying to get Battler to laugh with her over Rosa's death was her trying what Virgilia suggested, to be the welcoming sun. But that backfired incredibly badly for her.
