| Topic | Would you rather be Batman or The Joker? |
| Darmik 07/24/18 12:53:34 AM #21: | Skye Reynolds posted... Being inspired in response to a tragedy is not the same as being defined by tragedy. And being inspired to dress as a bat and fight criminals is crazy. Skye Reynolds posted... Batman isn't a story about how money doesn't bring happiness. Bruce Wayne isn't an Ebenezer Scrooge or a Ricard Cory. He's Howard Hughes, Bruce Lee, Sherlock Holmes, Muhammad Ali, Michael Phelps, Bill Gates, Robert Hutchings Goddard, and Clark Gable rolled into one. Howard Hughes was an eccentric reclusive who spent 4 months pissing into bottles so that's a funny one to bring up. Bruce Wayne's wealth isn't usually the focus of his story. It's more like his background and resource. Also Batman is basically a modern interpretation of Zorro if you really want to be pedantic about it. Skye Reynolds posted... He has every conceivable gift and his writers make it clear that he's never second best in any field. Even when confronted with a man who's meant to be a superior being from space, he still never takes a backseat to anyone. What does that have to do with happiness? Skye Reynolds posted... And what's his identity in most modern adaptations? He's a perpetual victim reliving that "one bad day" as the Joker would put it. Yes. Because he's broken deep down. Plenty of successful, rich people are. Most Batman characters are people who have been broken by one bad day too. Joker included. It's kind of a theme in the franchise. --- Kind Regards, Darmik ...
