I'd certainly take N over any other (non-Red/Blue) Gen 1 trainer. A big issue with Brock and Misty will be the match pictures. When Brock and Misty are more likely to have their strength come from the anime, having a picture of their anime appearance would be most ideal to maximize their strength. The character design in the games generally differs from the design in the anime, which is a problem for Brock and Misty. Out of the official artwork listed on the above 2 pages, I think FRLG Brock/Misty comes the closest to approximating their appearance in the anime.
