Just choose your favorite stuff and play the damn game.
when you have tens of thousands of dollars on the line you can't expect people to just pick their favorites. They're gonna play the cheapest characters and use the easiest strategies to win with.
Well, more to the point, in competitive environments, people tend to want to reduce the impact that chance has on the outcome of a game or set. No one wants to spend a lot of time practicing and improving at a game only to lose because they were dealt a shit hand. In most cases, you can't eliminate that element entirely (Whispy can be a bitch in 64), but you can almost always mitigate it.
But mitigating chance isn't "fun" I guess to these people.
