I would vote for somebody who has the qualifications, and the fewest skeletons in their ninety square foot walk-in closet. I don't vote for labels. Do what you want to do, so long as it doesn't harm anybody else, and perform your duties well, and you're okay in my book.

I would never support anybody whose goal right out of the gate is to restrict the 2nd Amendment. The majority of firearm deaths in America are suicides, 90% of those being men. Between 60 and 70%, according to FBI and CDC statistics, but I haven't checked the data from the past three years. A small percentage is "accidents" that don't get declared to be suicides, but that's mainly people being willfully careless. The larger remaining portion is plain murder, with around 90% of those being with handguns, not "muh AK-16 deadly assault ghost gun with high capacity murderclips". Of those murders, the majority of those tend to be gang-related, and not "gang sprays wrong house on wrong block and murders child", either. So, how do we solve the problem?
Find out why men are committing suicide, and work to deal with those issues. Provide counseling, schooling, vocational training, and other programs to help those in need, so they don't see death as the only option.

Oops, never mind.
Well, ignoring the men who kill themselves, what else can we do?
Ah, we can work to motivate people to do well in school, to improve themselves, and to get a career in a field that will help not only the worker, but also his or her family, and neighborhood. But no, doing well in school is not "street". You'll get yourself murdered, trying to be the nail that sticks up. Have a job, own your home, and own your vehicle? Yeah, that's not allowed. Maybe crack down on gangs, break them up, and prevent them from rising at all? Well, that's dangerous, and potentially racist. Never mind. Just focus on the good parts of town.
Well, the smallest section of gun deaths, how can we fix that? By teaching people about safe handling and operation of firearms, so that they don't see a gun as a magic kill stick? Take the mystery out of them so that they're just some mundane thing that shouldn't be played with? No, we can't be doing that. We have to save JUST ONE LIFE by taking away all of the scary black rifles.

Also I'm just as poor now as I was when Minimum Wage was $4. Can't afford to buy even a crackhouse, can't get a car with less than 100k miles on it. Tell me how spiking the base rate for every job in the country up to $15 is going to make things better. How is that not going to quadruple the price of a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread, or a bag of carrots? Hundreds of thousands of people work in the massive chains that produce and transport these items. Are companies going to just eat the loss in profit to pay floor-sweepers more than I made working for a telecom? No, they'll pass on the expenses to the consumer, and if every company doesn't do it at the same time, the first one to do so will be the first one to go out of business. Larger companies could afford to wait, while the smaller companies would be immediately ruined. Take THAT, small business!
