Taking a closer look, it's hard not to be concerned about increasing the scale to a significant degree. The article mentions that a tonne of the stuff can remove half a tonne of CO2 from the atmosphere. While that ratio is pretty nice, we're talking many billions of tonnes of CO2 that need to be removed. And though this process may indeed be many magnitudes faster than formation via natural processes, there's a huge question of how much is produced each time. After all, the example image of the mineral in question (which was credited to the project leader himself) is a mere 4 microns wide. If we're dealing with a mineral that forms in such small amounts each time, even with the rate sped up, the discrepancy in scale is pretty alarming.
