Rockstar is much more fun and has better tech and dev systems and stuff. And their focus on open world is preferable to me. GTA3 still rocks me.

I think my first R* game (I didnt even know until a few years ago that it was published by them) was smugglers run I use to love playinyg that with my dad.

You still have your copy? I wish I did a better job of holding onto old games. Growing up I always had to trade in my old system and games along with what I scrapped together for the console jump.
