I feel worse because I feel objectively inferior, and that I'm not doing enough. Is this normal?

Yes. If you're going to always compare yourself to people who seemingly have it better than you then you're going to feel like shit. Perhaps comparing yourself to folk worse off then you will put things into prospective for you or better yet don't care as much about other peoples lives and know it's ok to be you. Nobody is perfect and everyone walks the path of life differently.

This doesn't mean you can't feel envy, jealousy or any other emotion it just means you shouldn't spend a lot of time doing so. Building confidence should be your focus and always putting yourself down isn't the way to go about that.
