Daytime is considered the time between 4:00 a.m. and 9:59 p.m. and so night time is between 10:00 p.m. and 3:59 a.m.

also it turned out that this was answering "what time is considered the night" not for general purposes but for the witcher 3 (2015)

here is a more updated answer from an earlier time (2013)

Noon is at 12:00 PM. Afternoon is from 12:01 PM to around 5:00 PM. Evening is from 5:01 PM to 8 PM, or around sunset. Night is from sunset to sunrise, so from 8:01 PM until 5:59 AM.

i strongly disagree that 5 AM is "night"

for the purposes of this topic, night shall arbitrarily be set from midnight to 4 AM
