I think he made that a point against dogs because the stuff dogs destroy sometimes is expensive to replace, in my experience at least. Well, I didn't include house plants in my previous post but they weren't my houseplants. On the dog end though you have them running around in the yard destroying bushes by making like tug-o-war with them and digging holes all over the yard.
