And then the customer has to buy either a replacement battery or a new device, which is perfectly fine from the perspective of the people developing and selling the devices. Toss in that being smaller and lighter generally makes the devices much more usable for as long as the battery lasts, and that those batteries are still going to be good for a few years of normal use (about as long as people expect their portable devices to last), and there really isn't much incentive to put bulkier batteries in there.
