Because he's talking about FLOORING carpeting... not a rug you lay on the floor

carpeting = wall to wall covering

rug = a mat you put down to make ur home fancy/keep furniture from damaging the floor

You're not getting my point.
I understand your terminology, but I don't understand your reasoning.

I googled how does that stuff look and there's plenty of that stuff where I live, it's just that it's not fixed to the floor. And it never moves around. So if it won't move around, I don't get the point of fixing it to the floor. Really impractical.

Honestly, at this point I'm going to need a picture reference of exactly what you are referring to just to make sure I understand what you are talking about.

Do you guys walk around in dirt all day or something?

I mean, if you walk around outside at all and then walk around in your house, you are going to be tracking dirt and grime around your house. Especially over time. Obviously straight up walking in dirt is worse but the fact of the matter is, you aren't really going to be able to avoid it. Keep in mind it's not only outside stuff that matters, you walk around in public bathrooms and other dirty areas as well.
