It's research. I'd rather have it on my resume than not, and the experience should prove valuable when I have to do an internship later on.

I have no idea what research in pure math actually looks like, so I'm out of my wheelhouse. If you aren't sure what you want to do, then definitely try out research. At the very least, it'll give you an appreciation for what goes on in the deep dark recesses of academia.

The thing about research, which you should keep in mind, is that the time committment is usually much much higher than normal classwork. So you should prepare accordingly.

Gotcha. I've got nothing but free time with 14 credit hours, so bumping it up to 16, as I plan to do, shouldn't be that bad of a deal.
