Actually there was a discussion a couple years ago about enacting a concealed carry policy on Georgia campuses. I heard a lot of perspectives from Georgia Tech students on the pros and cons of carrying weapons on the campus. On the one hand, robberies and muggings happen a LOT, like at least once a month. So having a gun to protect themselves might make sense. But these attacks usually happen late at night, like 1-3 am when the student is likely walking home drunk from a party, and they usually are ambushed by a group of people. That means having a gun would not have helped in those situations and would have just been another thing that the criminals took away. The bottom line is guns are useful for self protection, but they are not a magic bullet. Everyone everywhere should be taking reasonable precautions in safety and avoiding dangerous situations, whether that means walking in groups or getting a police escort. You never think something can happen to you until it does.
