Finished three airing anime today, from worst to best:

The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar was pretty damn bad. I'm not the biggest fan of harem fanservice shows in general, but, even leaving that aside, I could still tell that this was one of the worse examples of the genre. I felt like the girls barely had a character beyond their relation to the generic main dude and their desire to please him. In a standard SoL harem show that might not be as much of a problem, but the other half of this anime was about war and politics where these characters probably should have mattered. It managed to consistently screw that whole aspect up too. The strategic wars might have been okay if the situations were realistic, but enemy states would bounce back from resounding defeats with new armies pulled out of thin air and nothing anyone did seemed to have any real consequences. It never reached the hilariously stupid lows of Record of Grancrest War from earlier this year, but Ragnarok still wasn't any good. One of the ten worst anime I've finished, 1/10.

Music Girls was a whole lot better than that! It was definitely no Love Live, but for the budget it had and the fact that it needed to characterize twelve characters in twelve episodes, it was fine. I liked the unique perspective of Hanako being a staff member rather than an idol, and a bunch of the main cast was fun. It also dealt with challenges I haven't seen other idol anime touch on, like one of the idols gasp being photographed in the vicinity of a man and causing a PR stir. There were some dumb drama moments and it would've been a million times better with higher production values, but this was still a decent anime. I rank it just below average at 5/10.

And lastly, Chio's School Road was good! The way that Chio and Manana interacted, comfortably shitting on each other, was hilarious and realistic to a lot of my own close friendships. There were two episodes that I felt were a significant step down compared to the rest, but otherwise I actually thought the humor was pretty consistent and enjoyable. The side characters all held their own during their various skits and Chio was a solid core to all of them with her gamer logic and awesome Satania voice. It didn't quite manage to hold onto the distinction of being my favorite comedy anime of the season, but I still rank it a comfortable 7/10.
