really great trope that's a bit overused but has created some of my all-time favorite characters when used correctly

One major issue I have with the trope page: It lists pretty much every villain whose been any kind of mastermind or even any kind of completely driven villain. I think what really distinguishes a Magnificent Bastard from a typical mastermind villain is that their personality is as much a weapon as anything else

It's why I didn't vote John Kramer from Saw; he's a driven mastermind but he really stays out of the spotlight as much as possible, speaking to everyone with neutral temperament and hiding his face

hell even Shadow the Hedgehog is listed on there as an example, that's like the opposite of this trope
