I don't think I've seen a conservative actually advocate for small government in that they never raise their voice if government regulation is used to legislate and/or enforce their political beliefs. Case in point, the FCC and net neutrality.

Getting rid of net neutrality is anti-competitive. We've long escaped the overarching ideologies of both parties and simply have a hodgepodge of social issues on both sides. Foreign policy and corporatism is pretty much prevalent on both sides, the latter just being egregiously demonstrated by one side more than the other.
