Depends where you are in the state.

I lived in Burlington for about 3 years. It's a medium-sized town that's very liberal, lots of college kids during the school year. Really beautiful during the summer and fall with the lake right there. Plenty of outdoor stuff to do (skiing, biking, hiking, water sports, etc...). Most of the rest of the state is farmland and rural outside of Montpelier and Rutland. Those areas are generally conservative outside of some small towns that live off tourists from NY, NJ, and Boston.

The whole state is hot but scenic in the summer, some of the best foliage in the fall, god damn miserable in the winter if you don't LOVE snow, and wet and muddy in the spring. You gotta love the outdoors and not being around a lot of other people.

edit: I do want to add if you're going to be in Rutland, Manchester, Bennington, Brattleboro, or those areas there's a lot of trashy areas. VT was one of the hardest hit places from the opioid epidemic and it's still rampant there.
