that's the other thing, it seems like bethesda is trying to distance themselves from "unapproved" distributors, perhaps as a way to better push their paid mods or more easily regulate user mods (which are used to "pirate" paid mods). fallout 76 seems to be a way to entice users into entering their ecosystem (I'm aware it's on microsofts store as well) so that whenever tes vi/f5 comes out there isn't as much as a backlash against them trying to push paid mods once more.
badly marketing 76 like this just seems to push against that goal.
