exactly this. i'm in the Miami area and last year we didn't even lose power when Irma hit. I have friends on the Gulf Coast who had nothing for a week and even now there's still some damage the city hasn't gotten around to fixing

I'm in Lee and Collier County, there's still people getting their roofs fixed from Irma a year later, roofers can't even keep up with the work.

Fucking eye wall came knocking on my door. Weird thing was one side of the building was a fucking wind tunnel of death as expected, the other side was oddly calmer to the point that I sat outside in a flimsy screened-in lanai drinking through the whole storm.

Jesus I got fucking sloshed during the storm. That was probably a poor decision, if that storm surge came in I'd have been too damn drunk to do anything but be doomed :/
