Something that's been bothering me for a while. One talking point that I see brought up from time to time is the idea that Democratic politicians don't actually care about minorities, but they adopt the social platform that they do as a political scheme to accumulate votes from all of the various minority groups in the country.

So then my question is--even if this premise is true, why is this a bad thing?

I will mention ahead of time that what we ultimately care about are the policies that are put in place and not the feelings of the policymakers, so I'm ideally looking for something slightly more concrete than just an emotional appeal to whether or not they're being genuine.
