Birds have their feathers pulled and are kept in cages unable to fly. That's far worse than an indoor cat. Or you want to talk unnatural cruelty, look at animal agriculture.

There are several cat breeds that cannot live outside and should never be outside.

Every outdoor access cat my family has had ultimately met some very nasty premature death that was completely avoidable. Not to mention all the animals the cats themselves killed. Song birds are dying in droves care of outdoor cats.

It's not the same in the UK where cats have few risks. It's flat out illegal to let your cats out in many municipalities here.
