I can't speak for everyone, but most deniers I've encountered don't believe it outright didn't happen, just that the scale of it was exaggerated.

On one hand, I can't think of any reason to exaggerate the scale of it, given that by the time it was well-known about in general Nazi Germany had already been defeated (so there'd be no "exaggerate it to convince people they're really bad!" aspect), and that if there was one at the time, it would surely have been exposed by now. On the other, I also recognize that that kind of event in general is nearly impossible to ascertain the exact scale of.

Personally though, I don't see the point in debating the scale. It's pretty fucked up whether there were 1 million, 3 million, 6 million, however many victims.
