They had an election where Ted fucking Cruz was a drag on the GOP and rose Democratic numbers significantly, with the end result of being a few seats flipped while the GOP held on to the Senate and easily retained the governor's mansion and the statehouse.

This was a good election for the Democrats in Texas, but I'd be hard-pressed to equate that as a sign of anything to come. Cruz isn't going to be on the ballot again until 2024, and Trump easily outpolls that creeper so even a presidential turnout in 2020 won't have the same GOP detriment.

I think this is a good analysis. I think the results being close is the result of how poor of a candidate Ted Cruz is.
