Well that's really petty of you to hold a grudge over something so insignificant. You do realize that you're not the only person who applies for a job, right? There are hundreds (sometimes even thousands) of people who apply for the same job as you. What most likely happened is that they were considering you, but in the end there was someone who was better qualified and so they hired that person instead. You also can't expect a call back just for them to say that they aren't hiring you. Very few companies do that. Think about it logically for a minute. If there are hundreds (thousands) of applicants, then you can't expect the company to call each and every one of them just to say that they aren't hired.

I was personally recruited by a manager out of the blue. I didn't initiate contact with the company. Not even contacting someone to tell them to look elsewhere is worthy of earning no small amount of ire. It's like inviting someone to go on a trip, and then not telling them that you decided not to go after they packed and took time off of work.

Just because they initiate contact doesn't mean they have to follow up with an answer. No answer distinctly implies you didn't get the job. Once again, companies get hundreds of resumes. You cannot expect them to call each and every one of them to say that they didn't get the job. That's ridiculous to expect them to do that.

Your analogy with the trip is very poor. If someone invites you on a trip, that means it's a done deal and you're going. Sending a resume to a company isn't a done deal at all. There's a very slim chance that sending a resume to any company will result in a job offer. Yes, you can pack and take time off from work to get ready for the trip, but I hope to god you didn't do something that stupid when you sent the resume. I hope you didn't quit your current job hoping that you would now have a new job. That would be very stupid of you. It's a ridiculous analogy comparing a resume to a trip.
