Basically you had a rag tag group aligned from the far left to far right that wanted to do something dramatic to push back against what they perceived as a weakness without any real plan of how to get that done. So the people on the far right and far left were never going to come to an agreement on specifics of Brexit as there's multiple groups that all want different things.
