You can call something by the same name, but if they are nothing like the original, might as well be something entirely different at that point.

Feel free to prove me wrong, maybe the show captures that feeling from StTW, but is just a little darker.

I think there's merit in a different take on a familiar property. I only watched the first four episodes of this, but it's neat to see it implement some twists to characters/settings you know and love.

That said, from what I watched, I felt like it didn't really take it far enough to become its own thing. It's half-serious, but half tongue-in-cheek? I like that for a lot of things, but it didn't click for me here.

You might like the comic it's based on. It plays things completely straight (no real comedy). It carves out its own identity in a way the show didn't quite manage. That said, it comes out at an absolutely glacial pace; there have been eight issues in four years. It goes on hiatus all the time.
