I'm partially offended due to flashbacks of FF7 and its characters beating my picks in previous battles. But that's not the point here.

I'm looking around the internet as I type this, but I'm having trouble finding where it was said. But basically, Nomura's style was contrasted by how he was asked to design the characters in Final Fantasy VII.

Nomura's contemporary style has a more anime design. Final Fantasy VIII showcases his natural art style.

More famously, Nomura designed Kingdom Hearts.

I'm quite fond of his promotional piece for Cloud in Smash Bros. as well. The characters are bright, lively, and colorful. I'm also a huge fan of his shading.

Nomura is undoubtedly one of my favorite character artists. Having grown up with FF and KH in my teens, they had a big impact on me. But FF7's artwork was something I could never get behind.

I'm no artist, so it's hard to put into words. I'm just not a fan of it. If you can contrast the two, you can see how much different it is. It just feels lifeless in comparison.
