The thought that games dont equal character is not always right anyway, but its blatantly incorrect with Crono. There is no character in this contest more intricately linked to his game strength than Crono. He has no other game, he is the absurd focal point of his game to the point they share a name.

Strongly disagree with this. I'd vote Chrono Trigger over almost everything, Crono not so much. He's one of seven playable characters in his game, has no dialog (I know, I know, Link doesn't either, but Crono's game is more dialog-driven). "Absurd focal point" is better used for characters like Mario and Mega Man who not just share the name of the game, but are often the sole playable character.

Characters like Mario, Link, Samus, and Mega Man also benefit from the fact that they're in multiple games. In the first few years of contests Chrono Trigger would have beaten any Mario game on the site, yet Mario beat Crono more often than not. Mega Man has been at worst comparable to Crono throughout contest history, but CT would clean MM2's clock. It's pretty obvious that Crono isn't as strong as his game. I would tend to think that stronger CT equates with a stronger Crono relatively, but considering that Crono had been on the bottom rung of the N9 for some time, all that does is get him back to being competitive with them.
